Why use a Vitamin C derivative rather than pure Vitamin C?
In the formula for our Lift Expert Serum, we use a Vitamin C derivative called SpecWhite® VCE.
Pure Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), while powerful, has several limitations:
- It is unstable: in contact with air, water, or oxygen, it oxidizes quickly, losing its effectiveness even before reaching the deep layers of the skin.
- It requires a low pH: to be effective and penetrate the skin, it must be formulated at a very low pH (around 3.5), which can be particularly irritating for sensitive skin.
In this case, Vitamin C derivatives offer a more stable, gentler, and equally effective solution:
- They penetrate the deep layers of the skin more easily, including the dermis.
- Once absorbed, they gradually convert into active Vitamin C. This makes them gentler and better tolerated.
- Their stability allows them to remain effective longer, without risk of oxidation.
In summary, we chose a Vitamin C derivative to ensure optimal anti-aging efficacy, better skin tolerance, and formula stability.
